In certain segments of the population, bruising is a problem. Those who are very fair skinned or those who are blood thinning medication regiments such as aspirin or Coumadin also have problems with bruising as their blood is thinner and pools easier. Women, children and the elderly are particularly susceptible to bruising and hematomas. Research has also shown that the tendency to bruise is hereditary.

Bruising or hematomas are not usually medically threatening unless they occur in certain regions of the body, and even then they are usually the result of a serious injury, meaning that they require emergency medical treatment. A hematoma in the brain, chest or spine can be life threatening and must be treated immediately.

In order to know how bruising and hematoma work, and how they differ, you must first understand what they are. A bruise is a rupture of small blood vessels just under the skin, and they are usually the result of a bump or a fall, though this isn't always the case. A hematoma on the other hand is a larger pool of blood under the skin and has a spongy texture to it. Hematoma generally take longer to heal, and are more painful than just a bruise. Contrary to popular belief, hematomas are not blood clots and they are night life threatening like one.

Hematomas are common after moderate to severe injury or following surgery and while they aren't life threatening, they are unsightly. But they don't have to be. There is a new product on the market that uses centuries old natural healing methods to treat bruises and hematomas and promote the healing of tissue.

Hematoma Reduction Oil is a revolutionary blend of essential oils that promotes the natural healing of tissues. This oil contains lavender, which has been known for centuries as "first aid in a bottle". Lavender is one of the few essential oils which can safely be applied undiluted directly to the skin. It is also very soothing, and will aid in relaxation and sleep. Sleeping can go a long way toward healing, particularly after surgery.

Hematoma Reduction Oil also contains Juniper Berry. Juniper berry has long been used as a treatment for cellulitis (an inflammatory skin infection) as well as an anti-toxin. When combined with the Lavender this oil becomes remarkably powerful at flushing the toxins from the area of bruising and healing the cells affected. Ideally, this oil should be applied as soon after surgery or injury as possible, however it shouldn't be applied to an open wound. This oil is unique in that you don't rub it in until it is absorbed, like you would a lotion, this can make bruising worse. Instead, you allow it to be absorbed naturally into the skin. It will help to flush away the blood trapped in the tissue and promote healing of the blood vessels. This oil is particularly helpful after cosmetic surgery, when one wants to look their best as fast as possible.

Aromatherapy is a highly effective means of treating minor problems, such as bruising. As always, consult with your physician, especially after surgery, before using any product near a wound.
